Yen LIBOR Hits Three-Year Low |
Bloomberg News reports that Yen LIBOR has reached its lowest level in three years. The rate drop comes as the Bank of Japan is expected to hold interest rates at their ultra-low level. LIBOR stands for London Interbank Offered Rate and is a filtered average of rates that banks charge each other for unsecured, short-term loans.
At press time, Three-Month Yen LIBOR declined to 0.30813%, its lowest mark since June 2006. The LIBOR move coincided with reports that the Bank of Japan would keep that country’s interest rates at essentially zero percent. LIBORATED.com has reported on LIBOR rates in major currencies declining to new lows in response to central banks maintaining activist policies of low interest rates and cash infusions to boost liquidity. US Dollar LIBOR and Euro LIBOR have responded to such moves by the Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank respectively.
